Bob Amer, Tenor

Bob has been in the Barbershop Society for 18 years. Bob is legally blind so he cannot read music. In fact, many of our members do not read music (not because they are blind!). He learns by listening to recorded part tracks. Bob was in the marketing/advertising business working for an advertising agency and a bank. He has since retired. He says he likes Barbershop because “it makes him, and our audience feel better.” He says the Sarasota Chapter is “a strong group of diverse talents who like to come together to sing” (they are great people!). His favorite Barbershop songs are Danny Boy and What a Wonderful World. He sings in “Afternoon Delight” a popular and talented Chapter Quartet. He likes singing in a quartet because he can hear the other parts, “but you have to carry your own part.”

(Tenors are hard to come by!) “In a quartet, I can hear the other 3 parts. It's great fun but you have to know your part well.”

He has sung with many quartets: 17 years with Melodies & Memories (in NH), and most recently with Good To Go in the Sarasota chapter. “I love the fact that in a quartet you can really crank up the chords and directly affect audience enjoyment.
